CLIFFSIDE   &   RIVERSIDE

CLIFFSIDE

Sport Climbing

Access is only permitted by booking online (HERE) or by invitation from the landowners. There are over 60 sport climbing routes equipped with stainless steel glue-in bolts and mussey hooks at the anchors. The topo for each area is located at each crag. The names and grades of the routes are hammered into copper plates at the base of each route. If there is a red tag at first bolt of a new route, do not climb it.

Wind River Via Ferrata & Ziplines

There are currently FOUR via ferrata loops which Sam constructed over the course of five years. The easiest being The Marmot, on the far right. Left of that is The Merganser. And for experienced (5.10+) climbers only, The Bighorn takes you up 3 overhanging pitches to the upper zipline, The Raptor. On the south facing cliff is the Coyote. If you do all three via ferrata loops on the right side and the two ziplines, we call that, “The Bear.” If you add the Coyote, you’ve then completed “The Grizzly!”

NOTE: The via ferrata loops and ziplines may only be done with prior permission from the Owner. Otherwise, they are guided by Wyoming Climbing Guides.

THE GOLDEN RULE: Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Cliffside Rules (as posted):

No access is allowed without a reservation or invitation from the owners, unless being guided by Wyoming Mountain Guides.

NO LITTERING, HUNTING, OR UNAUTHORIZED CAMPING.

Always stay on the trails.

Do not climb on red-tagged routes.

No new route development.

No modification of any kind to an existing route.

No loud music, firearms, or smoking of any kind.

No fixed quickdraws. Project quickdraws may stay up for a week.

No rope/gear stashes (other than ours).

No dry tooling on free climbs.

Dogs must be leashed at all times, from car to car. Canine Retention Units (CRUs, aka bolts), have been placed at the base of the crags to clip the pups in.

Wag Bag your poop, if necessary, and pack it out.

Dog waste should not be left anywhere near crag or on/along the trails.

No accessing any adjoining land from our property.

In general, this is private property and our home. We want others to enjoy the land, but not at the expense of our enjoyment of the area or our ability to live comfortably in our home. To that effect, please help us enforce these rules. If a fellow climber is breaking the rules, let them know it is not cool and notify us.

Helmets are strongly recommended. Wind River Canyon is geologically unstable and has a lot of natural rockfall. Also, there can be people above you on a few of the crags. There is no high-angle search and rescue in this part of Wyoming. There is a hospital in Thermopolis, but climbers will have to rely on each other for rescue.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO TRESPASS ANY INDIVIDUAL AT ANY TIME AND FOR ANY REASON.

RIVERSIDE

Fishing

You may fish provided you have a Tribal Fish & Game Fishing Permit. We request that you use barbless hooks and only catch and release while near or on our property. Guiding is only permitted in the Wind River Canyon by the Wind River Flyfishing and Whitewater Rafting Company.

Birdwatching

There are many species of birds in the canyon including Bald and Golden Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Merganser ducks, Geese, etc. Enjoy looking! (No capture or shooting allowed.)

The Mosey

It will be constructed near the foundation at a later date. It is the idea of walking a labyrinth, but in the shape of our brand.

The Wind Phone

There will be a phone located next to a bench. The Wind Phone idea started in Japan. The premise is that you can dial the name of a loved one and speak to them, allowing the wind to carry your message. The Wind River Canyon is an ideal place for a Wind Phone!
